After
returning to Brockville Speedway victory lane just two weeks ago, Lee Gill was
beginning to close in on the point leaders as he climbs back into contention in
the chase for the 2012 Brockville Speedway Modified championship. Last week, a strong second place finish
narrowed the gap even more, and he was looking for a solid finish again this
week.
Gill
started his qualifying heat at the rear of the field, and quickly moved
forward. He went on to finish the race
in second place. After returning to the
pit area, Gill and his team made some minor adjustments to the car, and rolled
onto the track for the 30 lap main event from the 13th starting
position. He patiently worked his way
forward early in a race that was plagued by several caution periods in the
first half. He was in the top ten by
lap eight, and continued to progress through the field getting up to second
before the race reached the halfway distance.
On lap 16, Gill made the race-winning pass, and cruised to victory.
“I
really have to thank all of our sponsors for their support, as well as the
great fans here at the BOS”, says Gill from Victory Lane. “We are having a good year, and hopefully we
can keep that up for the rest of the season”.
This
coming week will be a big week for Gill at Brockville on Saturday night as it
will be a double laps, double purse and more importantly, double points. Another good week could go a long way
towards etching his name on the BOS championship trophy in just his first year
back at the track full time since 2003 when he won his fourth consecutive
title.
